Abstract

In just a few years, conversational AI systems went from novelty to daily habit for hundreds of millions of people, who now turn to them the way earlier generations turned to a dictionary, a calculator, or a search bar — except the AI does not just retrieve information, it reasons, drafts, and decides on the user's behalf. That shift has moved fast enough that neuroscientists and cognitive researchers are only now producing controlled data on what happens inside the brain when a large language model becomes a daily thinking partner. The early findings are consistent enough to take seriously: constant reliance on AI assistants measurably changes brain engagement, learning, and confidence in one's own judgment.
